As a Systems Engineer – Fleet Operations Engineering, you’ll be part of a highly skilled team responsible for keeping Apple’s massive compute infrastructure running with maximum reliability and performance.

Your work will directly support critical Apple services such as iCloud, Apple Pay, Apple Music, Apple TV, Maps, News, FaceTime, and Siri. This role blends deep Linux expertise, automation, infrastructure engineering, and operational excellence in a fast-paced, always-evolving environment.

You’ll collaborate closely with internal teams, investigate complex issues, perform root cause analysis, and continuously improve systems through automation and smarter workflows. What you’ll be working on:

  • Supporting and operating Apple’s large-scale Linux-based compute infrastructure
  • Monitoring systems, managing events, and coordinating issue resolution
  • Investigating complex infrastructure issues across application, OS, network, and hardware layers
  • Designing and implementing automation to reduce manual effort
  • Improving operational workflows to enhance uptime and efficiency
  • Collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams through calls, chats, and documentation
  • Making recommendations that improve reliability, security, and customer experience

Key Technical Skills:

Linux Administration, Oracle Linux, RHEL, CentOS, Python or Go, Docker, Kubernetes, KVM, GitHub, Bare-Metal Servers, Networking Protocols, IPTables, SELinux, Infrastructure Automation

Requirements:

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience managing large-scale Linux server environments (virtual and physical)
  • Strong expertise in Linux administration, especially Oracle Linux, RHEL, or CentOS
  • Experience with containerization and virtualization (Docker, Kubernetes, KVM)
  • Proficiency in Python or Go for automation and tooling
  • Strong understanding of Linux security, encryption, IPTables, and SELinux
  • Experience working with bare-metal servers and Linux hardware internals
  • Excellent debugging skills across application, OS, network, and host layers
  • Solid knowledge of networking concepts across all layers
  • Ability to perform detailed root cause analysis and incident mitigation
  • Strong communication skills for cross-team collaboration
  • Willingness to work in rotational shifts
  • A mindset focused on automation, continuous improvement, and ownership
